"The seat time waiver let me work half time during the day and complete my classes before graduation."
CyberEd Seat Time Waiver Program
Educate and Include the Community
Our idea is to partner with your school to educate and include the community in all that the seat time waiver has to offer. CyberEd will also take an active role in explaining what our teachers and we are willing to do to support individual student success. We are willing to be a part of meetings such as school board, town hall, or individual meetings with local groups (for example, local home school associations).
Training
We are willing to train mentors, parents and anyone else interested in supporting an individual student’s success. We feel that home school parents will want to stay involved and our plan is to train them so they can do so effectively.
Orientation
A late August orientation with STW students and parents would allow us to:
-Finalize and sign a Personal Learning Plan
-Provide a virtual tour of our online environment (online textbooks, virtual classrooms,
online grade book)
-Take part in a course “trial run,” such as signing in and exploring the resources
mentioned above.
-Take diagnostic assessments
-Schools could also share important information such as count dates where students
are required to sign in.
*Similar orientation at the school to answer questions at the beginning of each
semester/trimester
Personal Learning Plans
A PLP would allow students an opportunity to design a vision for their success that would include a signature. The PLP would also allow the school to hold students accountable for their learning. A PLP might include:
1. Semester/trimester goals drafted and agreed upon by the student and mentor,
and CyberEd.
2. Weekly Structure An example: M/math, Tu/social studies, W/English, Th-/science, F/electives -We will need to provide a few different options for students to choose from.
An agreed upon weekly structure would allow us to monitor a student’s
progress, or the lack thereof.
-Weekly student generated progress report sent to everyone involved in their
success (teachers, mentor, parent, etc) would also hold the student
accountable for their learning.
